I Run to Remember I Can

I run to remember that I can run

no matter how old I am

running is freedom

freedom to move

my body

to breathe

to feel

the air on my skin

and the sweat on my body

the waking up of my muscles

to remember I can run

I am alive

Running

gives me the freedom to be

in this glorious body

no matter what my age,

my shape, or

challenge I may or may not face

I chant this mantra

in my mind

and match it to the cadence of my steps as I run

I am free to be me

I am free to be me

I am free

I am free

I am free to be me

I am free to be me

I am free to be me

I am a sovereign being

of light and sound

I remember who I am and why I came

to be around

to celebrate

life and all that it has to offer

The peace that running brings to the breath

the body

the mind

freedom in owning this body

of light and sound

I run because

of the child within me

wants to run

I run because

I am a child

a daughter

a sister

a friend

an aunt

a mother

a mother-in-law

a grandmother

Rosie runs alongside of me

as do my Angels

my loved ones in heaven

and my spirit guides

all join in this run of freedom and joy

as I scamper

trot

and sprint to the

beating of my heart

I run to remember

that I can run
